The coronavirus pandemic has brought in many life changing events in our lives in the last two years and one of such major change took place in the education system in India.
Educational Institutions are closed, does that mean we no longer have the means to study our favorite subject? luckily the answer is NO. The technological advancements have unlocked a more convenient mode of learning enabling students with the power to study remotely but the question “Is online Education Good or Bad?” is still left unanswered.
Every thing in this world has its own pros & cons we shall go through and analyse the pros before proceeding into the demerits of the system.
Merits of online Education
1. Convenient and cheap
Online education is more convenient & cheap as the medium & mode of studying takes place on the internet students now do not have to spend much on travel expenses to travel to far off distant places to receive quality education this drastically cuts down the cost & time for a student. Online education also has also impacted the use of stationary objects in a good way, there is no unnecessary usage of paper & other objects as all the process of teaching & passing of information takes place virtually and also notes are practice sheets are provided in the form of virtual downloadable files.
2. Faster Interaction
Students with the help of online systems can interact with their subject teachers on a one-to-one basis in very little time as compared to the time taken for a personal meet & doubt clearing session, this ultimately increases the overall efficiency of student’s work.
3. Decrease in workload
A good online education system will automatically decrease the workload of the teachers as the time they previously took to manually correct all the assessment sheets & validate the marks have been substituted by intelligent computer system which can take the correct inputted answer and automatically displays the result of the student at a much rapid pace. This helps the teachers to concentrate more on the students development and also improving their skills & knowledge on the particular subject.
4. Upgradation of technical knowledge
The current scenario has forced the whole community of teachers & students to upgrade their technical skills to cope up with the dynamic nature of online systems. The less tech-savvy teachers have also started to get their feet wet in the ocean of virtual conferences & meetings. More so the change has impacted the students in a great way as it has pushed the upcoming generation to learn & develop more profound knowledge in the field of computer at a very early stage in their careers.
5. Rise of ED-TECH platforms & online courses
One of the most significant changes can be seen with rising of ED-TECH platforms and online courses, these platforms and courses are trying to establish the way for the future generations of students and are seeing a huge wave of students pursuing their services. This directly impacts the country’s information technology sector creating jobs for the developers & allowing them to innovate and come up with a solution for a better online education system.
Just like the merits, there are also demerits to the online education system
Demerits of Online Education
1. Poor connectivity
With more people adapting to the technological changes the usage of the internet has seen a major upward change in terms of usage and it is really important to have a proper high-speed internet connection to support the student’s online education needs but sadly connectivity issues are a major cause for failure of online classes in some regions as the connection is not stable either on the student or on the teacher’s end. These issues can sometimes take up the whole study time and hamper the schedule of the student’s curriculum, however in Garg’s Scholar Institute we have made sure that we do not lack behind just because of poor connectivity and ensure best facilities to our students.
2. Lack of Discipline & Focus
As the teachers are unable to physically meet & interact with their students and everything is taking place online, there is also a rise in students using unfair means to break the authenticity of a studying session. students are lacking focus because the devices also have several other features & applications, movies, games & much more which continuously distracts the students from their subject decreasing their overall learning goal. The lack of accountability of work has also been a major reason for their lack of discipline & focus
3. Reduced Physical Activity & Increased On Screen Time
As everything little thing in online education takes place in front of a computer/mobile screen, students, as well as teachers, are exposed to all sorts of illnesses which range from severe headaches to losing eyesight. Listening to audio at all times via earphones & headphones also causes major health issues. The amount of physical activity a student had to do right from getting up for school to coming back home has almost been cut down to zero this is by no means is beneficial for the overall growth and development of a child. It is now more important than ever to have a physical exercise routine in place so that you don’t miss out on keeping your child healthy & fit.
4. Lack of creativity
There are only a few things that a teacher can do while teaching through online mediums as compared to a multitude of options while interacting on a physical level, this reduces the creativity of a teacher and also at the same time makes some of the topics and subject not so fun for the students to learn.
Conclusion.
As mentioned above that there are merits & demerits of things and so in the case of Online education it is really important to draft a balanced schedule and follow it to the core with due diligence to avoid any demerits that come up in the way and come out in top the way you planned it to be from the very beginning.
